My Composing Process Essay
Composing an essay if a difficult task for me, I like to compose my essay using my laptop. I find that typing is much easier than writing. I sit at my desk in the study room of our home. The television is on the music channel to help my brain try to relax as I need some clear and precise thoughts. I want to scream! I am not a good composer. I tend to delete most of my sentences and retype them trying to use better sentence structures. I go back and re-read what was on the class instructions. In order for me to be able to compose my essay I will need organization. My process for composing an essay is researching the topic, gathering the necessary information for which I will be writing about, composing the essay, and finally submitting my essay.
Researching the topic of my essay is the most difficult task for me. As I sit at my desk I fumble back and forth through all of the reading materials that were in the class book. I have a habit of reading the directions several times over. When I start to research my essay I go over many different examples of essay types. I like to use the examples given for our class. There are so many and I get confused easily. I need many different examples on the paragraph structures because I am not a visual learner. I am a tactile learner; I can learn by example though. When I have all the information I gathered from researching my essay topic, I write it down in an organized list. First, I start with the most important information and end my list with things I did not find too important to the topic, but still might consider for my essay.
When I compose my essay, I tend to take a lot of breaks because my brain gets fatigued quickly. I need to get up and concentrate on something else and come back in an hour or so when I am refreshed. I have so much anxiety during the composing part and I am not sure why. I have my organized list off to the side of my keyboard. I keep looking over it many times to keep my organization going. As my typing begins, I start off with trying to find the perfect topic sentence and thesis. I will start from there and fill in the middle of my first paragraph. I am asking myself if I did the topic sentence correctly and if my main idea is clear enough. I have so much doubt about my writing abilities, but I try to work through it as best as I can.
When I reach the conclusion part of my essay, it is time to submit my work. Submitting my essays takes more time than it should for me. When I have everything organized just right, I will save my work, and then come back later to re-read my writing several more times before I submit it. I will make sure I have everything spelled correctly because I am not the best speller. I also use a thesaurus to see if I can use a better word to replace some words. Before the final save I will make a list to see if I used third person in the essay, and if I used past tense with present tense together. When I am satisfied that my essay is to the best of my ability I will finally hit the submit button.
Essay composition for me is composing and putting together a piece of writing by taking it a step at a time. I like to start at the top while I work my way down, being very organized in the process. What works best for me is when I am in my quiet room, doing all of my researching and composing to be able to concentrate to the fullest. Writing an essay is very difficult for me; I have so much self-doubt about my writings. There are so many things going through my head like trying to find the perfect word or the perfect sentence that I often forget to just compose my essay and try not to make it more difficult than it should be. I have never thought of myself as a writer because I have difficulty putting my words on paper in a fashion that can be easily understood. I hope with experience in essay composition that it will become easier for me to sit and put together a piece of writing without self-doubt.
